Subsidy Management
Get rewarded for going green. The UK Government offers support to businesses that implement projects that generate renewable and low-carbon electricity. We can help you take advantage of them.
Understanding the Government support
This support is provided through several energy subsidy schemes where the aim is to help keep prices below market levels for customers and above market levels for suppliers.
Understanding which subsidies your business is eligible to benefit from can be challenging and time consuming to manage. So, with the Government offering the financial support, we can can help your business manage the various energy subsidies available within the UK.
What renewable subsidies are available in the UK?
Several of the schemes implemented by the UK government are now closed to new applicants while those who have already qualified still need to maintain fulfilling the application criteria. Here is a breakdown of the subsidy schemes within the UK currently that have now been closed to new applicants:

Feed-in Tariffs (FiT)
The scheme closed back in 2019 and was designed to promote the uptake of renewable and low-carbon electricity generation. Anyone who had installed an eligible installation that uses one of the following technology types could apply for accreditation.
- Solar PV
- Wind
- Micro CHP
- Hydro
- Anaerobic digestion (AD)
FiT is typically used for smaller scale renewable generation projects, whereas Renewables Obligation (RO) is one of the main support mechanisms for larger renewable electricity projects across the UK.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
Uses grants to encourage you to switch from fossil fuel heating systems with either a heat pump or biomass boiler. The grant helps cover a portion of the cost of doing so.
If you have multiple properties, there is potential to receive one grant per property. The grants that are available are as follows:
- £5,000 towards an air source heat pump
- £6,000 towards a ground source heat pump (includes water source heat pumps)
- £5,000 towards a biomass boiler

Contracts for Difference (CfD)
This government scheme acts as a mechanism for supporting low-carbon electricity generation.
The aim behind the CfD's scheme is to encourage investments into sustainable electricity generation within the UK, by providing developers of projects with increased upfront costs and long lifetimes with direct protection from volatile wholesale prices. Additionally, they protect consumers from paying increased support costs when electricity prices spike.
This scheme runs in Allocation Rounds, so you must be mindful of the round's timescales and criteria.

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
Was launched at the start of 2020, which is a Government supported approach to assist small-scale generators who export low-carbon electricity back to the National Grid.
This requires electricity suppliers to pay the small-scale generators. To receive this support a set of criteria needs to be met, view the criteria here
