Carbon literacy training for your business
Unsure where to start with your scope 3 emissions? Our series of workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of your business, its employees and customers.
Conquer your carbon challenges
Tackling emissions across your supply chain can be complex and frustrating. The data required to fully comprehend your scope 3 emissions is often beyond your control, while it can feel like a minefield getting to grips with it all.
But when it can make up to as much as 90% of your company’s carbon footprint, understanding and reducing these hard-to-pin-down emissions is becoming increasingly crucial.
We’re here to demystify your emissions and train your team to develop the understanding and know-how to attack your scope 3 problems head-on through a series of carbon literacy training workshops. We’ll equip you with the expertise, skills and tools to fully combat your carbon footprint and help your organisation stand out amongst your peers.

The importance of measuring scope 3
What are scope 3 emissions?
Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions that occur in an organisation’s value chain but are not directly controlled by it. They can include emissions from the transportation of goods, the use of sold products, and the generation of electricity by suppliers.
Why are they important?
Measuring scope 3 emissions is important for several reasons. Firstly, it can help organisations identify where they are emitting the most greenhouse gases. This information can then be used to prioritise reduction efforts and make more informed decisions about their supply chain.
Measuring scope 3 emissions can also help organisations to meet regulatory requirements. In some countries, it’s mandatory for organisations to report their scope 3 emissions while it helps UK-based institutions that have to comply with SECR and ESOS. Finally, measuring can help organisations to improve their sustainability performance and attract more customers and investors.
How to measure scope 3 emissions
There are several ways to measure scope 3 emissions. The most common method is to use the Greenhouse Gas Protocol's Corporate Value Chain (scope 3) Standard. This standard defines 15 categories of scope 3 emissions and provides guidance on how to calculate them.
Other methods for measuring scope 3 emissions include:
Life cycle assessment (LCA): Using a life cycle assessment (LCA) such as an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to calculate the emissions associated with a product or service from cradle to grave.
Supply chain emissions: Supply chain emissions models enable an organisation to estimate the emissions across all of their suppliers.
Stakeholder surveys: Conducting a stakeholder survey to gather information about the emissions associated with an organisation's products or services.

Workshop 1
You’ll take part in a discovery workshop which is split into two sessions.
- The first session we’ll cover an introduction to carbon foot printing. Followed by understanding what is already being reported on.
- To finish off, we’ll introduce our carbon reporting software.
- The second session is centred around defining and understanding the various scope 3 emissions categories, then a more in depth look at the 15 scope categories along with their descriptions.
- The output of the discovery workshop session is to have a plan agreed to start collecting highlighted scope 3 emissions.
Workshop 2
Initially, we will provide a further summary of our carbon accounting software and how the data collection process works.
- Then a collaborative review of the data that has been captured historically.
- A discussion on the progress relating to the scope 3 categories that were highlighted to collect from the initial discovery workshop.
- To finish off workshop 2 we will agree timescales regarding uploading data into the software.
- The main output being a transparent carbon footprint for scope 1,2, and 3 data.
Workshop 3
Workshop 4
To conclude the series of scope 3 workshops we help develop a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP), which will be your businesses’ pathway to achieving net zero.
- Agree action for various departments to identify defined projects across various departments, to assist with how you will achieve net zero.
- Update carbon reporting platform to ensure performance is measured and tracked.

What is carbon literacy?
Carbon literacy is the understanding of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community, and organisational basis. It's about grasping the science behind climate change, recognising the role of businesses in emissions, and developing practical strategies to curb greenhouse gas output.
