Success Story

Herriard Bio Power

Securing an RHI subsidy of £700,000 over 20 years.

Herriard Bio Power
challenge-2

The Challenge

The Herriard Bio Power installation is a 1.2MW anaerobic digestion plant based on a farm in North Hampshire. It converts waste material from mixed sources into energy.

Now part of Re-Gas, the company shares Trident’s commitment to developing a sustainable, zero-carbon future, generating enough green energy to power and heat 3,500 homes every year and also producing certified bio-fertiliser for local use.

Looking to optimise profitability with the help of available subsidies or incentives, the company partnered with us to:

  • Obtain a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) subsidy.
solution-2

The Solution

The RHI scheme is a UK government initiative administered by Ofgem and set up to encourage the uptake of renewable heat technologies amongst householders, communities and businesses by offering financial incentives.

Participants receive quarterly payments based on the amount of renewable heat generated by their systems, helping the government meet its renewable energy targets.

Our expert team has extensive knowledge and experience of the RHI application process, and Herriard Bio Power chose a fully managed approach.

benefit-1

The Benefits

By using the heat generated by the plant for eligible processes such as pasteurisation and process cleaning on the farm, we were able to secure an RHI tariff of 2.24 p for every kWh of eligible heat energy generated.

The RHI tariff is paid directly by Ofgem on a quarterly basis in line with the heat meter readings submitted on the Ofgem RHI portal, and will total £700,000 over 20 years.

In addition, the actions implemented to become eligible for the subsidy also deliver substantial energy and cost savings in themselves.
